Logos - The Symbol of Your Brand

It’s no secret amongst my friends and clients, I LOVE LOGOS. I am not a graphic artist but as a brand architect I often bring graphic artist in on my projects. In my opinion there is nothing that brings together a brand the way a logo can.

 

I have seen my share of logos in my career, some of which I didn’t quite understand or like and some of which I absolutely love.  The logo is for many business owners the first tangible part of their business and because of this they tend to be very picky when it comes to the details, colors, fonts, character spacing, pictures and the list goes on and on.

I enjoy the process of bringing my ideas together in ways that will be seen by all that interact with my clients company on just about any level. Just think about the different points of contact where the public handles the logo of a company:

  • Business Cards
  • Signage
  • Letters
  • Vehicles
  • T-Shirts
  • Ink Pens
  • Presentations, etc.

 

This ultimately makes anyone who produces logos for companies wildly published and acclaimed artist, ok maybe I’m taking that a bit far but suffice it to say logos are pretty darn important.

 

If you are looking to get a logo designed or redesigned make sure you pick a designer that listens to you and is willing to learn about your business. This is really important when picking a symbol that represents your business. I absolutely love symbols because they are like puzzles that once you get it they kind of unfold before your eyes.

 

A lot of logos stick around longer than the businesses they were created for, so because they tend to have long shelf lives be sure to go with classic over flashy and trendy. Trust me this will save you a lot of money, classic is always in style where trendy looks fade really fast.

 

I have attached a collage of some logos I have done for clients over the years. Some were hard fought battles, some the clients loved instantly and others clients didn’t love at all, I wonder can you you pick out the ones that didn’t make the cut.

 

All in all the logo design part of building a brand is a matter of great compromise between artist(me) and buyer(client) so I shoot for a win-win scenario every time.

 

Some things you want to be sure your logo does though are listed below:

  • It must look just as good in black & white as it does in color.
  • The company name should be clear and legible.
  • The logo must represent the company and the work that is done.
  • A good logo will distinguish you from the competition.
  • A logo should never be a photograph or clip art.
  • A great logo will be beautiful enough to wear on clothing.
